Abstract

Global epidemics of obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D) call for innovative solutions apart from conventional treatments. New research shows that probiotics and functional foods are crucial for controlling metabolic health by reducing inflammation, preserving glucose levels, and adjusting the gut flora. This review investigates the complicated link between gut flora and metabolic illnesses and how functional diets and probiotics help. Furthermore investigated is clinical data supporting their efficacy in controlling diabetes and obesity, therefore stressing both the favourable results and the still existing issues. By addressing the heterogeneity in probiotic strains, personalizing treatments, and considering regulatory issues, this review emphasizes the potential of probiotics and functional foods for preventing and treating metabolic illnesses included in regular medical practice. Increasing evidence points towards specific probiotic strains and functional food ingredients that can mitigate gut dysbiosis, systemically decrease inflammation, and improve metabolic parameters in diabetes and obesity. To maximize therapeutic efficacy and compensate for inter-individual heterogeneity of treatment response, this review examines clinically effective dosing and delivery formats. The article expresses a critical perspective of the issues associated with standardization, safety assessment, and compatibility with traditional treatment protocols. We conclude by outlining the steps taken in order to translate these interventions into public health guidelines and individualized eating regimens.
