Abstract
CONTEXT: Age estimation is commonly conducted in medical and legal procedures due to the growing incidence of crimes, natural disasters, and immigrations. India is a diverse nation and there are only fewer studies available in northern India settings about human age estimation using radiological methods. AIM: To estimate the radiographic dental age using commonly used methods of age estimation, like Demirjian, Smith, and Cameriere methods. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study population consisted of 300 orthopantomograms (150 male and 150 females) aged between 5 and 15 years. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The results showed that the Cameriere's modified Indian formula is better in accuracy in estimating the age among children in an Indian setting as compared to other mentioned methods with the actual age.
