Abstract
This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (Intervention). The objectives are as follows: To identify and summarise the evidence from randomised controlled trials assessing the clinical efficacy and safety of resurfacing the patella versus not resurfacing the patella in total knee arthroplasty. The following null hypotheses will be tested: 1.There is no difference in outcome between resurfacing the patella and not resurfacing the patella in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. 2.There is no difference in outcome between resurfacing the patella and not resurfacing the patella in patients with inflammatory arthritis of the knee. 3.There is no difference in outcome between not resurfacing the patella and resurfacing the patella with different prosthetic designs. 4.There is no difference in outcome between resurfacing the patella and not resurfacing the patella in patients with grade varying grades of patellofemoral arthritis, and varus or valgus deformity of the knee
