Abstract

Advancements in arthroscopic techniques have improved the management of large and massive rotator cuff tears, but the failure rate remains high. Nonabsorbable high-strength suture tape is widely used in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and lateral ankle ligament repair to enhance the biomechanical strength of graft and ligament, thereby helping to reduce the risk of laxity and rupture. In this technical note, we describe arthroscopic rotator cuff repair using tape augmentation for large and massive tears. Key steps include fixing 1 end of the double-stranded tape to the superior glenoid and passing it through the tendon to integrate with the cuff. After cuff repair, the tape is anchored to the lateral aspect of the greater tuberosity under appropriate tension. This technique is expected to effectively share tensile load through the high-strength tape, reducing failure risk and promoting healing.
