Abstract

• A trans-complementation system for Usutu virus (USUV) recapitulates authentic viral replication. • High yield of TMN-ΔNS1 virus was obtained with no recombination into replication competent viruses. • TMN-ΔNS1 can be trans-complemented by heterologous orthoflavivirus NS1.
