We present a genome assembly from a male specimen of Volucella zonaria (Hornet Hoverfly; Arthropoda; Insecta; Diptera; Syrphidae). The genome sequence has a total length of 1,262.78 megabases. Most of the assembly (89.25%) is scaffolded into 7 chromosomal pseudomolecules, including the X and Y sex chromosomes. The mitochondrial genome has also been assembled and is 15.82 kilobases in length.
