The title compound, C(14)H(19)N(2) (+)·BF(4) (-), was obtained by reaction of 1-ethyl-3-(2,4,6-trimethyl-phen-yl)imidazolium tetra-fluoro-borate with sodium tetra-fluoro-borate. The imidazole ring makes a dihedral angle of 78.92â (13)° with the benzene ring.
