In the title compound, [Co(C(12)H(11)N(2)O(4))(2)(H(2)O)(4)]·4H(2)O, the Co(II) atom lies on an inversion center and is octa-hedrally coordinated by six O atoms from four water mol-ecules and two monodentate zwitterionic 2-methyl-benzimidazolium-1,3-diacetate ligands. An intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond occurs. In the crystal, inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into a three-dimensional network. π-π inter-actions between the imidazole and benzene rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.9031†(17)†à ] consolidate the crystal packing.
