Breast cancer is the leading âcause of death from cancer âamong women. Higher âconsumption âof âdietary âmarine n-3 long-chain âpolyunsaturated fatty acids ââ(LC-PUFAs) is associated âwith a ââlower risk of breast âcancer. Eicosapentaenoic âacid (EPA) and âdocosahexaenoic acid (DHA) ââare âtwo n-3 LC-PUFAs found âin fish and exert anticancer âeffects. In this study, ânatural âmarine-âderived âlecithin that is rich in âvarious polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) was extracted âfrom salmon heads and ââtransformed âinto ânanoliposomes. These ânanoliposomes were âcharacterized and cultured âwith âtwo breast âcancer âlines (MCF-7 and MDA-MB-ââ231). The nanoliposomes âdecreased the âproliferation âand âthe stiffness of both âcancer cell types. These âresults suggest that marine-derived lecithin possesses ââanticancer properties, âwhich may have an impact âon developing new ââliposomal delivery ââstrategies for breast cancer âtreatment.
