Abstract

Pampus punctatissimus and Pampus argenteus are species within the genus Pampus and are renowned for their fast growth and thick, flavorful meat. As highly valued commercial marine fishes of the order Perciformes, they are widely distributed across extensive shallow-water regions, including the Northwest Pacific (off China, Japan, and Korea) and the northern Indian Ocean. In this study, to facilitate further molecular evolutionary research on Pampus species, we constructed chromosome-level genome assemblies for both P. punctatissimus and P. argenteus. Our assembly was 38.11 Mb longer than the reference genome (P. argenteus) in terms of total length, with greater scaffold N50 values. The BUSCO scores of 99.1 and 98.1 for the P. punctatissimus and P. argenteus genomes revealed the high completeness and accuracy, respectively, of our assembly. The P. punctatissimus and P. argenteus genomes contained 25,552 and 22,284 predicted protein-coding genes, respectively, and 24.34% and 24.88% of the assemblies were annotated as repetitive sequences, respectively. This study substantially advances the available genomic resources for P. punctatissimus and facilitates future research on the adaptation and evolution of this species.
