• Underrepresented and first-generation students are more at risk of social isolation during the pandemic which limits academic progress. • Intentional outreach from surgical leadership is necessary to promote inclusivity in surgery during a virtual age. • The establishment of structured virtual communities in each subspecialty will foster equitable access to mentors for those who need it most.
