Abstract
This article discusses a recent controversy over the value of facilities management (FM), describes four type of FM usage by hospitals, provides a listing of firms now providing FM services to hospitals together with the number of hospitals serviced by each, examines factors bearing upon the future growth of FM usage by hospitals, predicts the rate of proliferation, and identifies some of the lessons learned as the hospital FM industry has matured.
