Abstract
Celiac disease (CD) was previously known to be seen in underweight individuals, with weight loss being one of the key symptoms; however, newer data today is starting to show that most adults with celiac disease are either normal weight, overweight or obese. Here we present a 52-year-old patient with a body mass index (BMI) of 50.8 kg/m(2) who was diagnosed with biopsy-proven CD and her tissue transglutaminase immunoglobulin A level was 45.5 U/mL (0-15 U/mL). CD is becoming increasingly prevalent in overweight and obese individuals, making it essential for clinicians to be aware of this atypical presentation to prevent any delay in diagnosis and improve their quality of life.
