Abstract

Tenosynovial giant cell tumors (TGCT) are benign intra-articular and soft-tissue tumors. However, they are known for recurrence in incomplete excisions and tumors adjacent to the distal joints and neurovascular structures in hand. With poor knowledge of intrinsic biology behind these clonal neoplastic tumors, wide excision and three-dimensional conformal adjuvant radiotherapy to the tumor bed significantly prevent a recurrence. We report a recurrent TGCT of the thumb around the interphalangeal joint in a 54-year-old man treated with wide excision and adjuvant three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3DCRT). There was no recurrence, and the patient had excellent functional outcomes at 3 years of follow-up.
