Abstract
BACKGROUND: Adults with congenital heart disease represent a rapidly growing patient population with complex medical and psychosocial needs. Despite this, a shortage of specialized adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) cardiologists persists. DISCUSSION SUMMARY: Advanced practice providers play a critical role in improving access to care and enhancing quality across ACHD programs. Their responsibilities include longitudinal management, coordination of multidisciplinary teams, patient education, and research involvement. However, most training programs lack structured ACHD education. Expanding dedicated curricula, mentorship, and career development is essential to ensure competence and sustainability of this specialized workforce. TAKE-HOME MESSAGE: Integrating structured ACHD education and mentorship for advanced practice providers enhances workforce capacity and care quality for adults with congenital heart disease.
