Abstract
BACKGROUND: The LAMPOON (laceration of the anterior mitral leaflet to prevent outflow obstruction) technique has been reported for mitral valve replacement to reduce the risk for left ventricular outflow tract obstruction. CASE SUMMARY: We present the case of a patient who was hospitalized for dyspnea and diagnosed with severe mitral regurgitation. In this case, our team performed modified tip-to-base LAMPOON, which was subsequently followed by successful mitral valve replacement. DISCUSSION AND TAKE HOME MESSAGE: In contrast to previously reported LAMPOON procedures, the modified tip-to-base LAMPOON technique proved to be both safe and effective.
