Abstract
BACKGROUND: Humans with physical and intellectual plus mental abilities still have advantages that need to be exploited, compared to the capabilities of computers that are very sophisticated and artificially intelligent. The existence of a smart brain in humans coupled with simultaneous presence of emotional and soft skills gives humans to this day superior to computers in terms of superior wisdom. Soft skills have 9 components that make them exceptional in making something wise. This study aims to identify the role of books and student views. METHODS: A descriptive study using questionnaires was conducted in students of the Maritime Medical Specialist Study Program. The questionnaire covered five aspects about the role of the soft skill book to improve students' soft skills. RESULTS: Most students stated that the soft skills book was special (both the book's content and its role in improving students' soft skills) with number of 32/35 (91.4%). While 3/35 (8.6%) students stated that the soft skills book was good. This showed that soft skill book is important and useful as a guide. CONCLUSIONS: Most students stated that the soft skill book was special with number of 32/35 (91.4%), while 3/35 (8.6%) students stated that the soft skill book was good. Soft skill is important and needed to be understood, recognized, and mastered. Soft skill book played an important role as a guidance in the learning process to achieve a good soft skill. It is recommended to read the soft skill book carefully and work on it as a skill.
