Importance of Infection Control in Anesthesiology

麻醉学中感染控制的重要性

Abstract

Infection control plays a critical role in anesthesia. Anesthesia often involves close contact with patients and invasive procedures. Anesthesiologists care for patients before, during, and after surgery. This review explains why infection prevention is important. It looks at steps like patient decolonization, hand washing, proper care of vascular access sites, and cleaning the environment. It also suggests ways to improve infection control and urges anesthesiologists to follow evidence-based guidelines. This includes managing external lines, like Central Venous Catheters (CVCs), to lower infection risks. The review shows that following infection prevention protocols leads to better patient outcomes. The recommendations come from groups like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA). These are based on randomized controlled trials and expert agreement. The goal is to fill gaps in what healthcare professionals know and what they do in practice. By doing so, we can improve patient safety and quality of care through better infection control in anesthesiology.
