Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To summarize the best evidence on non-pharmacological interventions of radiation dermatitis in patients with head and neck cancer, and to provide evidence-based support for clinical practice. METHODS: Guided by the "5S" pyramid model, best evidence on non-pharmacological Interventions for the radiation dermatitis in patients with head and neck cancer was retrieved, covering the period from database establishment to January 2025. This study was conducted in accordance with the reporting standards of the Fudan University Center for Evidence-Based Nursing. RESULTS: A total of 19 articles were included: 2 clinical decisions, 5 guidelines, 3 evidence summaries, 4 systematic reviews, 3 expert consensus and 2 randomized controlled trials. 31 best evidence were identified across 7 key dimensions: Assessment, Basic Intervention, Skin hygiene, Skin Moisturization, Health Education, Avoidance of Irritants and Other Interventions. CONCLUSIONS: This study provide 31 evidence-based recommendations on non-pharmacological Interventions for the radiation dermatitis in patients with head and neck cancer. Effective implementation requires adaptation to local clinical environments, integration with multidisciplinary care, and attention to individual patient needs and treatment regimens. Nurses play an important role in assessment, education, and ongoing support, which could enhance patient adherence and quality of life. These findings support informed decision-making and standardized care in clinical practice. REVIEW REGISTRATION: Registration No. ES20246825.
