Abstract
INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Hydatid cyst is a common disease, especially in The Mediterranean, The Middle and Far East and South America. Liver and Lungs are the most common location and account for 90 % of cases. Other presentations are rare. PRESENTATION OF CASE: We present an 18-year-old man who suffered urgency, frequency and micturition pain for a while then developed acute urinary retention. DISCUSSION: Hydatid cysts in the urogenital system are rare, making them an important yet often overlooked differential diagnosis. Symptoms are related to the size of the cyst and the pressure applied on adjacent organs such as the bladder and rectum. Surgery remains the primary choice and medical treatment may be applied when rupture occur. CONCLUSION: Although rare, physicians should always keep it in mind in differential diagnosis especially in endemic areas.
