Abstract
INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: In children, refractory hypertension presents a complex medical challenge that is, characterized by consistently high blood pressure levels despite the administration of numerous antihypertensive drugs. Bilateral nephrectomy has been reported as a potential treatment option for children with refractory hypertension who have not responded to medical management. CASE PRESENTATION: In this report, we describe the outcomes of an assisted single-port laparoscopic bilateral nephrectomy in a 7-year-old girl with refractory hypertension after other treatment modalities had been exhausted. CLINICAL DISCUSSION: Single-port laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive technique with potential benefits, including shorter recovery times and improved cosmetic outcomes, which are especially relevant in pediatric patients. CONCLUSION: This case report demonstrates the successful use of single-port laparoscopic bilateral nephrectomy as a treatment for refractory hypertension in pediatric patients.
