Abstract
INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Pulmonary lymphangitis carcinomatosis (PLC) is a rare and aggressive condition that silently spreads cancer cells through the lungs' lymphatic system. Often linked to advanced malignancies, PLC often mimics other pulmonary diseases, making diagnosis challenging. This report shares the unique case of an asymptomatic patient whose routine follow-up imaging led to the early discovery of PLC, highlighting the life-saving potential of attentive medical care. CASE PRESENTATION: A 58-year-old man, previously treated for a benign colonic growth, found to have a small nodule on routine imaging. Though he had no symptoms, the nodule grew over six months, prompting surgery. Histopathological examination revealed early PLC secondary to an undiagnosed lung adenocarcinoma. Timely diagnosis and treatment, including surgery and chemotherapy, led to a favorable initial outcome. DISCUSSION: This case highlights the importance of careful follow-up care and early detection, especially in asymptomatic individuals. PLC is rarely diagnosed in the absence of symptoms, and its incidental discovery provides a valuable opportunity for timely intervention. This report emphasizes the need for heightened awareness among clinicians to improve outcomes in such rare and challenging cases. CONCLUSION: The case underscores the value of vigilant follow-up and thorough imaging evaluations, even in asymptomatic patients. Early detection of PLC can significantly alter the course of treatment and prognosis, reinforcing the importance of proactive medical care.
