Abstract
BACKGROUND: Pediatric orthodontics are prone to chronic gingivitis, which causes chronic inflammation of the gums and mouth. We aimed to demonstrate the effectiveness of Kangfuxin liquid in treating chronic gingivitis in children with orthodontic problems through a meta-analysis. METHODS: A thorough database search was conducted using PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, CNKI, Wan Fang, VIP, and the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) to identify randomized controlled trials that examined the effects of Kangfuxin liquid for the treatment of chronic gingivitis in children with orthodontic problems. RESULTS: Gingival Index, Sulcus Bleeding Index, Plaque Index, and Calculus Index. Interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1, Visual Analogue Scoring, and Debris Index. Data were extracted, literature was examined, and the methodological quality of the included trials was assessed. Meta-analysis was performed using StataSE, version 16. On the basis of gingival cleaning procedure, the use of Kangfuxin liquid on chronic gingivitis in orthodontic children improved the Plaque Index (standard mean difference [SMD] = -0.40, 95% confidence interval [CI] = -0.53, -0.26, P = .000), Gingival Index (SMD = -0.52, 95% CI = -0.69, -0.36, P = .000), Sulcus Bleeding Index (SMD = -0.34, 95% CI = -0.57, -0.11, P = .004), efficacy (SMD = 0.14, 95% CI = 0.08, 0.26, P = .000), Calculus Index (SMD = -0.18, 95% CI = -0.21, -0.14, P = .000), Visual Analogue Scoring (SMD = -1.40, 95% CI = -1.57, -1.24, P = .000), Debris Index (SMD = -0.80, 95% CI = -1.24, -0.37, P = .000), IL-1β (SMD = -1.55, 95% CI = -2.21, -0.88, P = .000), IL-6 (SMD = -2.95, 95% CI = -4.13, -1.76, P = .000), soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (SMD = -1.08, 95% CI = -1.32, -0.83, P = .000). CONCLUSION: Compared with the control group, the effectiveness of Kangfuxin liquid on gingivitis in orthodontic children was significant, and improved pain, inflammation, and oral health in orthodontic children.
