Abstract
According to the World Health Organization, sepsis is a major public health problem that affects approximately 49 million people worldwide every year and causes approximately 11 million deaths, accounting for 20% of all deaths worldwide. To raise awareness, September 13th was designated as World Sepsis Day, and various activities, such as education initiatives and campaigns, are conducted every year in countries worldwide. To commemorate World Sepsis Day in the Republic of Korea, the Korean Society of Critical Care Medicine held a symposium on September 6th with the theme “Improvement of Sepsis Awareness and Management Strategy.” The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency plans to continue its efforts to reduce the incidence of and mortality due to sepsis in cooperation with the Korean Society of Critical Care Medicine.
