Abstract
Open pelvic fractures are rare but present a significant challenge for trauma surgeons. High mortality rates are frequently associated with hemorrhage during the acute phase, while delayed mortality is typically due to sepsis and multiple organ failure. Effective management of these patients requires a complex, multidisciplinary approach. We report the management of an open pelvic fracture with severe soft tissue injury in a polytrauma patient. The patient sustained multiple injuries, including traumatic brain injury, closed thoracic lesion, and a type C2 open pelvic fracture with extensive soft tissue detachment (Morel-Lavallée lesion). Treatment involved emergency resuscitation, stabilization of the unstable pelvic fracture with an external fixator, meticulous wound care, and appropriate antimicrobial therapy. This comprehensive approach resulted in the avoidance of major complications and a favorable clinical outcome.
