Abstract

Our aim was to assess whether preoperative pelvic ultrasound findings influence the operative plan for gender-affirming hysterectomy. This was a retrospective cohort study of patients who underwent gender-affirming hysterectomy from February 2017 to February 2024. Fifty-seven underwent gender-affirming hysterectomy. Of those, 46 (80.7%) had an ultrasonogram 5 years before surgery. Review of the ultrasound report did not alter the planned conventional laparoscopic surgical approach that was decided on during the preoperative visit. No patients required an intraoperative conversion to another surgical modality. All 57 patients successfully underwent surgery through a conventional laparoscopic approach. This study shows that preoperative ultrasonography did not change management in this small cohort of patients undergoing gender-affirming hysterectomy.
