Abstract

Primary pelvic neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are exceptionally rare, especially in older women, and present considerable diagnostic challenges due to their nonspecific clinical presentation and their unhabitual pelvic retroperitoneal location. In this case report, we highlight an uncommon case of a neuroendocrine tumor (NET) in an elderly female, emphasizing the crucial role of imaging modalities in diagnosis and management. The patient presented with vague abdominal discomfort, Motivating a detailed imaging investigation. Ultrasound imaging, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a well-defined, heterogeneously enhancing retro-uterine mass, and the histopathological examination following surgical resection confirmed the diagnosis of a NET. This case highlights the importance of multimodal imaging in characterizing rare retroperitoneal tumors, guiding surgical planning, and excluding other primary sites.
