Abstract

Navicular fractures, although rare, can cause significant midfoot pain and dysfunction. This case report discusses the presentation, diagnosis, and surgical management of an acute navicular fracture with dorsal talo-navicular dislocation in a 30-year-old male. The patient, with no significant medical history, sustained the injury after falling from a height of approximately 3 meters. Initial clinical examination revealed midfoot swelling, ecchymosis, and tenderness, with imaging confirming the fracture and dislocation. The patient underwent open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of the fracture. The surgical approach included the use of Schanz pins and a locking compression plate (LCP) for fixation. Postoperative management involved a period of immobilization, with gradual weight-bearing allowed at 8 weeks. The patient showed no signs of complications during follow-up and achieved a favorable recovery. This case highlights the importance of early diagnosis, prompt surgical intervention, and appropriate follow-up in preventing long-term complications such as nonunion and osteoarthritis.
