Abstract
PURPOSE: To report a case of increased intraocular pressure following sauna use in a patient with severe-stage primary open-angle glaucoma. OBSERVATIONS: A 64-year-old Hispanic male with severe-stage primary open-angle glaucoma experienced intraocular pressure spikes following sauna sessions, as detected in clinic and confirmed by a home tonometry device. The intraocular pressure spikes resolved after combined goniotomy and glaucoma drainage device implantation. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPORTANCE: This case highlights the importance of a comprehensive and holistic assessment, including the consideration of exogenous lifestyle influences, to optimize glaucoma care and avoid or minimize daily activities that are potentially detrimental to disease.
