Abstract

This study proposes a novel modal circle-fitting method to estimate natural frequency and damping ratio from output-only acceleration. Validated through vibration-fatigue testing on an aerospace bracket, the method successfully detects initial, non-visible fatigue damage through key indicators: a decrease in natural frequency under random vibration and the emergence of a 'split-peak' pattern under sinusoidal excitation.
