Abstract
We report the complete mitogenome of Ligia barack (Santamaria, Bork, Larson & Link 2025), an endemic isopod from Nihoa, Hawaii. The mitogenome contains 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNAs, two ribosomal RNAs, and a non-coding control region. Most genes follow the typical Oniscidea orientation, though changes in tRNA composition and order are observed when compared to other Ligia species. Phylogenetic analysis suggests L. barack is closely related to another Ligia species from the main Hawaiian Islands. Our findings highlight within-genus mitochondrial variation in Ligia Fabricius 1798 and demonstrate the utility of low-coverage sequencing for mitogenomic studies in non-model terrestrial isopods.
