Abstract

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) affects over 80 % of men with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). Medications are first-line in the management of BPH. For patients who are refractory to medications, several minimally invasive surgical therapies are offered, with transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) being the gold standard. Prostate artery embolization (PAE) is among the minimally invasive therapies with good results, minimal adverse events and especially suitable for patients who would otherwise not be suitable for a TURP. Here we present a rare adverse event of acute urinary retention secondary to a sloughed tissue in a patient following PAE.
