Abstract
The development of a monitoring system in neurology is little different than elsewhere. It is first necessary to define the clinical events of importance. Physiological associations with these clinical events are determined, and parameters which are useful to monitor these physiological changes are found. The parameters which reflect essential clinical events, and are feasible to implement, are selected. A plan of implementation is developed which encompasses both hardware selection and software development together with consideration for future needs. This plan usually provides for the sequential implementation of each individual physiological parameter so that interactions may be determined, and this modular approach facilitates future expansion and modification.
