Abstract
The focus of this educational session is on the design, implementation, and interpretation of DNA-based microarrays currently being employed for molecular genetics applications. The utilization of oligonucleotide arrays (from a variety of manufacturers) has added a dimension to molecular classification that until recently was not easily available to the scientific community. This session will cover most aspects of sample preparation and technology implementation for comparative genomic hybridization and single-nucleotide polymorphism data generation. Most importantly, the session is aimed at addressing the interpretation of data from a variety of commercially available high-density technologies boasting the ability to assess loss of heterozygosity and copy number analyses. Protocols and procedures will be presented allowing participants to effectively incorporate these principles into their facilities and individual laboratories.
