Abstract
AIM: Oral physicians frequently encounter patients having headache, mouth breathing issues and rarely cases of anosmia too. Deviated Nasal septum (DNS) has been known to be a causative factor for the above mentioned issues. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 1040 CBCT scans were selected retrospectively between March 2020 and August 2022 from the dental records department of our institution. DNS and its type along with CB were evaluated based on Mladina's classification. Also, the effect of age and sex on the prevalence of DNS was assessed. RESULT: The study showed a very high prevalence of DNS in the Northeast Indian population and the prevalence of type 1 DNS were 63%, type 2 were 7.2%, and type 3 were 15.3%. Type 4,5,6 were not found. The prevalence of CB was observed in 56.5% of cases. CONCLUSION: Dental professionals must focus on anatomical variations in the sino-nasal region and should have adequate knowledge to properly diagnose any etiological factor that may be attributed to the development of sinus mucosal diseases.
