Abstract

Providing quality power without any voltage fluctuations is the responsibility of any utility. Among the series active voltage compensators, Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) is the most preferred in an electrical power distribution network. Three-phase unbalance sag as well as balanced voltage sag/swell can be effectively compensated using a DVR. In the conventional DVR configurations, the DC voltage rating and power rating of the inverter required is more for the compensation of voltage fluctuations. LCC (Inductor-Capacitor-Capacitor) Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) is a modified DVR configuration with a series capacitor at the output LC filter of the self-supported DVR inverter. As the series capacitor blocks the fundamental voltage, the DC voltage requirements and inverter power rating can be significantly reduced. This paper presents the design, control, simulation, and hardware implementation of a three phase 10 kVA DVR with an efficient controller. A comparative analysis of LCC DVR with other DVR configurations is also presented.
