Abstract
The Barbershop Talk project is a community-based clinical trial testing the effectiveness of barbershop-placed Alcohol Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment in reducing unhealthy drinking among Black men. Although engaging community partners in research effectively reduces health disparities, best practices to support meaningful engagement are needed. This article presents the use of a premortem analysis, a proactive strategy to identify potential pitfalls and design community-based solutions to improve community engagement in the research process.
