Abstract

The COVID-19 is an infection caused by a new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) and has spread rapidly worldwide since the first cases were reported in China in December 2019. Patients with COVID-19 have a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations, from asymptomatic forms to very severe symptoms of respiratory distress and multi- organ failure. Neurological manifestations were reported in up to 36.4% of patients with COVID-19 and include headache, dizziness, altered consciousness, and seizures. Likewise, cases of encephalitis, stroke and Guillain-Barré syndrome associated with COVID-19. The neurological manifestations of COVID-19 may be due to various mechanisms such as direct invasion (due to the neurotropic properties of the virus) and indirect mechanisms (derived from the pro-inflammatory state, metabolic disorders, or dysregulation of the immune system). A review of the literature on the neurological clinical aspects of COVID-19 and neurological manifestations was performed.
