What Kind of Specialists Should Know About Hormone Therapy?Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) has traditionally been regarded as a treatment for menopause and andropause within the fields of OBGYN and Urology. However, research indicates that HRT's benefits extend beyond managing vasomotor symptoms, positively impacting numerous medical specialties, including Endocrinology, Cardiology, Neurology, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Ophthalmology, Oncology, Orthopedics, Immunology, and others. This work tries to review the broad therapeutic applications of HRT across multiple medical fields, emphasizing its preventive and therapeutic roles in menopause and andropause. A comprehensive literature review was conducted, assessing studies on the benefits of HRT across various specialties. The research was sourced from PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Embase, focusing on peer-reviewed studies. HRT was found to have significant benefits, including prevention and treatment of false positive cervical dysplasia, vulvovaginal obliteration, recurrent UTIs leading to sepsis, clitoral atrophy, phimosis, urethral caruncles, skin aging, alopecia, decubitus ulcers, obesity, atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, insulin resistance, macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal detachment, optic nerve aging, and cancers of the kidney, colon, and breast. Additional findings showed HRT’s positive impact on microbiome health, tooth loss prevention, periodontal health, and protection against neurological conditions like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. Benefits also included alleviation of mood disorders, insomnia, sexual dysfunction, cardiovascular issues, and osteoporosis. New studies provide support for its role in the prevention of certain autoimmune diseases. The diverse benefits of HRT should be recognized across all medical specialties, enhancing interdisciplinary knowledge and patient care regarding menopause and andropause management.
