Abstract

This study aimed to use cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging to assess maxillary sinus volume and related measurements in different sagittal skeletal classes. Sixty CBCT images of adult patients aged between 18 and 25 years were collected and divided into three groups based on the ANB angle value: Class I (ANB = 0-4 degrees), Class II (ANB > 4 degrees), and Class III (ANB < 0 degrees). Maxillary sinus volume, surface area, width, depth, and height measurements were performed using Mimics Research TM software version 21.0. The maxillary sinus measurements were compared among the three skeletal groups. A total of 60 patients, with a mean age of 21.10 ± 2.00 years (ranging from 18 to 25 years), met the inclusion criteria. Statistical analysis revealed no significant difference in maxillary sinus measurements between the right and left sides (P > 0.05). Therefore, the mean value of bilateral measurements was used for subsequent analysis. No significant differences were observed in maxillary sinus volume, surface area, or height among the three skeletal classes (P > 0.05). However, the Class I group exhibited significantly greater maxillary sinus width and depth compared to Class III (P < 0.05).
