Abstract
BACKGROUND: This paper describes a rare case of hemoptysis caused by the rupture of a bronchial varix. CASE PRESENTATION: A 68-year-old man was admitted to the hospital due to recurrent episodes of hemoptysis. Bronchoscopy showed a cord-like lesion in the left main bronchus, and the findings of the subsequent endobronchial ultrasound and bronchial venography on the third hospital day led to a diagnosis of hemoptysis due to a bronchial varix rupture. Through multidisciplinary collaboration, hemostasis was achieved by performing a combination of treatments, including bronchial artery embolization, percutaneous transvenous bronchial venous embolization, and endoscopic variceal sclerotherapy. CONCLUSION: Successful management of bronchial varix rupture requires early diagnosis and collaborative hemostatic procedures involving multiple medical specialties.
