Abstract
Faculty development (FD) in artificial intelligence (AI) for health professions education (HPE) faces urgent yet complex demands. Despite promising applications, the field lacks instructional models, progression pathways, and evaluation frameworks. We designed and implemented a six-week online elective, Applications of AI in HPE, within the Johns Hopkins MEHP program. Grounded in an AI Competency Framework, the course supported responsible GenAI integration through structured real-life tasks, prompt engineering, and ethical reflection. Participants valued the pedagogy-first design, frameworks like BUILDS for custom GPT creation, transparency, and practical relevance. Our innovation contributes to global efforts in building AI capacity in HPE while preserving academic rigor, integrity, and cognitive skills.
