Abstract

BACKGROUND: We assessed the safety, feasibility, and efficacy of a new minimally invasive technique for pediatric linea alba hernia repair, using a fascial closure device with laparoscopic support. The surgical procedure and technical details are outlined. METHODS: Clinical data of 15 pediatric patients (6 males, 9 females; ages ranging from 2 to 12 years inclusive) who underwent repair of linea alba hernias using a minimally invasive fascial closure device with laparoscopic assistance at the Guangzhou Medical University Women and Children’s Medical Center between June 2023 and June 2024 were retrospectively reviewed. Preoperative abdominal ultrasonography confirmed hernia diagnoses and measured defects. All surgeries were performed laparoscopically. RESULTS: All surgeries were completed laparoscopically without conversion to open procedures. The average surgery time was 28.33 min (range, 15–55 min), and postoperative pain was negligible (pain score: 0), with hospital stays averaging 2 days (range: 1–4). No complications or recurrences were noted over 1 to 12 months of follow-up. CONCLUSION: Using a minimally invasive fascial closure device with laparoscopic assistance for repairing pediatric linea alba hernias proved safe, feasible, and effective. This approach promotes quick recovery, minimal surgical trauma, reproducibility, and excellent cosmetic outcomes, making it an advantageous treatment option for pediatric patients.
