Abstract
Achieving stabilization of fractures involving structurally compromised bone can present a challenging surgical problem. The IlluminOss® photodynamic bone stabilization system (PBBS) includes insertion of a light-curable polymer to achieve medullary stabilization of fractures via expandable ballon catheter. There exist few reports of PBSS for successful treatment of fractures involving the distal humerus, with varying results. We present four cases after surgical repair for pathologic distal humerus fractures using the IlluminOss® PBBS, with an additional posterior extra-articular plate, resulting in stable fixation and satisfactory patient outcomes.
