Abstract
After reading this chapter and answering the discussion questions that follow, you should be able to: Outline important milestones in the emergence of vaccines as a means of disease control and prevention. Discuss factors that underpin the disparity in access to vaccines between rich and poor countries. Identify and appraise innovative options for financing vaccine development, and for ensuring wider access to new and underused vaccines in developing countries. Evaluate strategies for ensuring sustainability in vaccine development, management, and access.
