Abstract
AIM: To assess mandibular alveolar ridge resorption using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) with the genial tubercle (GT) as a reference. METHODS: CBCT scans of 100 dentulous and 40 edentulous patients were analyzed; the vertical distances from the lingual alveolar crest and the GT to the mandibular base were measured. RESULTS: The ratios of these measurements were calculated, and a linear regression model was developed to estimate bone height. Results showed a statistically significant correlation (ρ =0.551, P < 0.001) between the two measurements, with the regression equation z = 0.957x + 19.704. The study concludes that the GT is a reliable and practical reference for evaluating ridge resorption, offering a simple method for clinical implant planning.
