Abstract

INTRODUCTION: The use of patient-based outcome measures in oral health, like oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL), has been into existence since 1980 and is increasing recently. This study was conducted to find out the patients' self-perception about their oral health condition before and after the prosthodontic treatment. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the OHRQoL in patients treated with complete dentures, removable partial denture, fixed partial dentures, and implants by using Oral health impact profile (OHIP) - 14 Scale. METHODOLOGY: The study was conducted among 170 subjects who visited a dental institute for seeking prosthetic treatment. The patients were further divided into four groups according to their choice of treatment and were questioned before and 6 months after the prosthodontic treatment. Oral Health Related Quality of Life according to the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP)-14 questionnaire was assessed for each group followed by intergroup comparison. RESULTS: The present study showed a statistically significant (P ≤ 0.05) difference before and after the treatment in all the four groups. Also, on intergroup comparison, the implant showed more successful results, followed by fixed partial denture (FPD), removable partial denture (RPD), and complete denture (CD). CONCLUSION: This study concluded that oral health-related quality of life after prosthodontic treatment showed satisfactory improvement in all the groups. On intergroup comparison, the implant showed more superiority, followed by FPD, RPD, and CD.
